Agricultural Produce Market Committee, Pandharpur was established on 13/6/1947 and started its actual functioning on 1/1/1949. The entire Pandharpur Lalluka is under the jurisdiction of the Chajar Committee and its head office is functioning in 40 acres of land in Pandharpur city. Bhandishegaon, Karakamb and Bhalwani are the sub-markets. It is currently functioning as per the Maharashtra Agricultural Produce Purchase and Sale (Development and Regulation) Act, 1963. The present Board of Directors has come into power since 18/5/2023 and is headed by Hon. Shri. Harishdada Bhaskarrao Gaikwad, Ra Chale has been elected as the Chairman and Hon. Shri. Rajubapu Vitthalrao Gawade, Ra Puluj has been elected as the Vice Chairman.
The Pandharpur Market Committee initially started regulating the paddy field and regulated the animals. As soon as the farmers realized that the cultivation of fruits and vegetables was profitable, the farmers planted grapes, pomegranates, bananas and other fruit gardens on a large scale and this market committee later regulated vegetables, fruits and betel leaves and on 1/7/1995, on the occasion of Agriculture Day, with the auspicious hands of Karmayogi Shraddhay Sudhakarpant, the owner and the owner of this market committee started the sale system through open auction in the market premises. The dealings of currants were started on 9/5/1997 by the auspicious hands of Karmayogi Shraddhay Sudhakarpant, the owner.
Similarly, the dealings of pomegranates were started on 10/11/2007 by the auspicious hands of Karmayogi Shraddhay Sudhakarpant, the owner. It is the first market committee to sell pulses on a per kg basis.
The dealings of cereals, currants, onions, lemons, fruits, bananas, pomegranates, sugarcane, vegetables and fenugreek leaves are done separately. After the dealings, the licensed person weighs them and accordingly prepares the farmer's bill and pays the seller the amount of his goods. Among other agricultural products, cattle and sheep are sold through mutual negotiations.
Every year, during the Yatra period of the months of Kartik, Magh and Chaitra, a big cattle market is held at Vakhri. Every year, during the Magh Yatra, the Market Committee organizes an incentive exhibition of cattle. In this incentive exhibition held at the Market Committee, good prizes have been given to the farmers for the best performing cows, bulls, buffaloes, reda and hybrid cows since 1964. Also, from Ashadhi Yatra 2016, a state-level agricultural exhibition is organized for the convenience of the farmers on the initiative of the MLA of Solapur district, Hon. Shri. Prashantraoji Paricharak Saheb, and a grand farmers' fair is held. This agricultural exhibition and farmers' fair were inaugurated by the auspicious hands of the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Hon. Shri. Devendraji Fadnavis Saheb.
The amount of rainfall in this area has been good during the reporting year. The cooperative society has regularly handled some of the total agricultural produce. The business of Maharashtra State Warehousing Corporation is increasing day by day.
As per the policy of the Central Government and the Maharashtra Government, a government guaranteed price purchase center has been run for the farmers for maize, gram and soybean, a farm product mortgage loan scheme has been implemented, subscriptions to Krishi Panan Mitra magazine have been made. Tree plantation and blood donation camps have been held. Wrestling competitions have been held for the children of farmers and the market committee has also become a member of the National Post-Harvest Technology Institute.
The market committee has received the state-level Late Vasantraodada Patil Memorial Award from Maharashtra State Market Committee Cooperative Union, Pune in the years 2017, 2018 and 2025 for its excellent work.
Under the Hon. Balasaheb Thackeray Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project (SMART), Hon. Marketing Director, Directorate of Marketing, Maharashtra State, Pune announced the annual performance of Maharashtra State for the year 2023-2024. In this, Pandharpur Agricultural Produce Market Committee has qualified in the areas of infrastructure and other services, financial operations, statutory operations and other criteria and secured 5th position in the state, 2nd position in Pune division and 1st position in Solapur district by scoring 155.5 points.
